- Size guide
How to select the correct ring size?
Choosing the right ring size will take a bit of effort and time, but it is important to get the size right - too tight ring is uncomfortable or impossible to wear and too big ring will easily slip off from the finger. The size of the finger changes, even within the same day. In the morning and again in the evening the fingers are usually slightly swollen, as well as when the weather is hot. In the middle of the day on a cooler weather the fingers are smaller. Therefore the best setting for measuring your ring size is in the middle of the day in a normal room temperature.
Buying new rings is easy if you already know your ring size. Kalevala Jewelry ring sizes are equal to the inner diameter of the ring in millimeters. The other common ring size system is based on the inner circumference of the ring. The conversion table shows how these two different measuments correspond to each other.
Many jewelry stores have special measurement rings that can be used for measuring the correct ring size. At home the correct size can be tested by cutting a narrow shred from a flexible paper, curling it around the finger and using a pen to mark the spot where the paper ring feels comfortable. The length of the straightened shred will give you the circumference of the ring and the correct ring size can then be found from the conversion table.
It is important to keep the paper ring as round as possible for it to correspond the real ring. The type of the fingers defines the correct measurement point: a person with larger joints should take the measurement from around the joint, and a person with pointy fingers should take the measurement from the spot where the ring would normally go.
Also the width of the ring affects the size selection. Wide rings require approximately 5mm larger size.
If you want to have a ring in the same size as the one you already have, the easiest way to find out the size is to measure the inner diameter of the ring. The best tool for the job is a vernier caliper found at least in some homes. Also dividers can be used for transfering the ring diameter onto a ruler. Note that older rings may no longer be perfectly round and the measurement may be slightly incorrect.
- Care instructions
Bronze products from Kalevala Jewelry have either a polished finish or are oxidized to add colour to the metal. Bronze is an alloy that consists of copper, tin and zinc, and typically oxidizes faster than precious metals. All our bronze jewelry has a protective lacquer coating, which prevents discoloration of the skin and delicate light-colored fabrics. This lacquer coating is eroded by various chemicals and slowly wears off. We recommend, therefore, taking off bronze jewelry while practicing sports, taking a sauna or swimming in chlorinated or salt water. Areas where the protective lacquer has worn off may be buffed with a Kalevala Jewelry polishing cloth. After cleaning the piece of jewelry with a polishing cloth, rinse the jewellery in mild soapy water so that the residue detergent from the cloth does not stain. If necessary, the protective lacquer coating can be restored by Kalevala Jewelry’s own maintenance service for a fee.
Silver products from Kalevala Jewelry are manufactured in sterling silver and have either a polished finish or are oxidized to add colour to the metal. The tarnishing typical of silver may be cleaned off with a Kalevala Jewelry polishing cloth. After cleaning the piece of jewelry with a polishing cloth, rinse the jewellery in mild soapy water so that the residue detergent from the cloth does not stain. The Kalevala Jewelry polishing cloth is not suitable for cleaning stones set in silver, and we do not recommend silver polish liquids for any of our silver jewelry. Oxidized silver jewelry can be cleaned by Kalevala Jewelry’s own maintenance service for a fee.
Gold products from Kalevala Jewelry are made in 18 or 14 carat gold. Gold products can be cleaned with special cleaning agents for gold, available in jewelry shops. For gold jewelry, we recommend regular care by Kalevala Jewelry’s own maintenance service to clean and polish the jewelry, and to check the setting of the stones.
JEWELRY WITH PEARLS
When wearing pearl jewelry, the jewelry should be put on last and taken off first. Wipe the pearls with a clean, soft cloth each time after wearing. For pearl jewelry we recommend regular care by Kalevala Jewelry’s own maintenance service to clean the jewelry and to check the stringing of the pearls.
We recommend washing all pieces of Kalevala Jewelry with water after each wearing. We also recommend that the jewelry be stored in its original packaging.
Kalevala Jewelry products comply with the EU nickel directive.

Twinflower, Linnaea borealis, is a slender creeping shrublet flourishing in spruce forests. This delicate plant hugs the velvet moss, pushing up stems, one after another, bearing pairs of gentle bell-like flowers. Twinflower is a beautiful feature of theFinnish forest. One of Finland´s national poets, Eino Leino´s lines together with twinflower have inspired jewellery designer Kirsti Doukas. The rose coloured pearls in her Twinflower jewellery capture the essential charm of this delicate flower.
