Kaj Franck

Kaj Franck (1911-1989), designer and artist, was one of the leading figures of Finnish design. He is also described as the conscience of Finnish design. He removed everything excessive in his designs, leaving only the essentials. Functionality was the starting point for his utility articles and colour was often their decoration.

Kalevala Jewelry announced jewellery design competition in 1947 in order to encourage the young generation of artists to create modern finnish jewellery. In this competition also artist Kaj Franck was rewarded and his competition work in silver was taken into production.
